Internet based Standardized-Learner Role-playing Simulation for Faculty Training (1090-003922) (Developmental Research Projects: Communication, Debriefing, Faculty Training (By Invitation Only))
Start time: Thursday, February 4, 2021, 2:00 PM End time: Thursday, February 4, 2021, 3:00 PM Session Type: Research Study Development and Presentation Program Abstracts
Hypothesis: Internet based Standardized-Learner Role-Playing (SLRP) simulation can improve the performance of novice debriefer. Background: Despite the importance of debriefing in simulation-based education (SBE), there is little guidance on how to develop debriefing skills. And simulation faculty development occurs in courses, conference workshops, and structured fellowship programs, however valuable, these events are not accessible to all and do not support reinforcement of skills over time. We will develop the SBE faculty training program using Standardized Learner (SL) Role-Playing (RP) simulation on internet base Research importance: We develop the contents with the framework of ‘Promoting Excellence and Reflective Learning in Simulation (PEARLS)’. Furthermore, the education program will be performed on internet space. After simulation, discussion and evaluation will be conducted on each participant's computer monitor. This educational program can overcome the limitation of space.
Study design: Pre-experimental design Experimental methods: This simulation will be performed on Zoom, and the trainer of SBE faculty act as a SL, and trainees act as an educator. OSAD score is used to evaluate the trainee debriefing performance. Likert score of debriefing trainees’ comfort from SBE is also surveyed. Participants: Subjects are 3 trainees of simulation-based education, and 2 faculties (CHSE) will attend the program. Apparatus: 1 demo simulation-based education video (hypoxia patient with ventilator scenario) Debriefing skill objectives (Reactions, description, analysis 1, analysis 2, summary) Survey form OSAD Feedback form Procedure: Introduction the objectives Review demo video Perform debriefing with SL Debrief SL simulation with faculties Survey and feedback This process will be performed on the base of internet (Zoom meeting). The video will be recorded, rated and analyzed. We have a plan of 5 simulations per each trainee.
Independent variables: sequential debriefing simulation experience Dependent variables: OSAD score, Likert score of debriefing trainees’ comfort from SBE Primary outcome: OSAD score, Paired T-test between the first and the last OSAD rating score (estimated effect size = 4, SD = 3) Paired T-test (Likert scale of the comfort between Initial, after 3rd sim. cycle, and after 6th sim., estimated effect size = 4, SD = 3)
