ECMO Preparedness during COVID-19 Pandemic: Simulation System Based Test (1090-004090)
CE Hours: 0.25 Session Type: Prerecorded Educational Courses
Learning Objective 1:
Describe a method for testing COVID-19 preparedness during Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) cannulation
Learning Objective 2:
Recall the two components of the conceptual framework for Simulation based clinical systems testing (SbCST)
Learning Objective 3:
Identify and begin to close the process gaps for ECMO cannulation of a COVID-19 positive patient
Content Category: Educator
This course is an example of a specific scenario, course, or curriculum.
ECMO cannulation encompasses many challenges that are heightened by infectious disease concerns. This course will review the framework of Simulation-based Clinical System Testing (SbCST) and show how it can be applied to testing processes for a complex, high risk procedure made more complicated by potential COVID-19 concerns. SbCST was used to identify and categorize latent safety threats posed by potential risk from infection in a PICU and NICU.
