Patient Transport in the Time of COVID-19 (1090-004312)
CE Hours: 0.25 Session Type: Prerecorded Educational Courses Session Sub Type: Hot Topics (15 minutes) Cost: $0.00
Learning Objective 1:
Identify the core components of a Failure Mode & Effects Analysis
Learning Objective 2:
Describe how translational simulation is uniquely capable of providing timely, practical guidance in the development or improvement of protocols during a rapidly evolving pandemic or other impetus for change
Learning Objective 3:
Discuss how an FMEA could be integrated into a translational simulation program to quantify and modify safety threats before processes even “go live” in an organization or institution
Content Category: Innovator
Course Content:
This course is an example of a specific scenario, course, or curriculum.
Course Overview:
This course describes how our center uses translational simulation to improve hospital systems and enhance safety. In this instance, we used a Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) model and iterative rounds of simulation-based modification, testing, and debriefing to facilitate the development of our hospital’s COVID19 patient transport policies. Through our process we discovered 13 latent safety threats; 9 scored as severe in our FMEA.
