Co-Presenter: Michael Spooner, MBA, MD, Mason City Clinic About the co-presenter: CAPT(ret) Michael Spooner currently serves as Co-Chair for 2021 IMSH Delivers Annual Meeting. He has been involved in simulation education for over 13 years, and as a member of the SSIH for 6 years. Professionally, he is a staff Electrophysiologist, Invasive Cardiologist, and member of the Fellowship Faculty at the Mason City Clinic in Mason City, Iowa where he continues to lead simulation activities for residents and fellows. Prior to retirement from the U.S. Navy in 2020, Dr. Spooner served as Director of the Healthcare Simulation and Bioskills Training Center at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia. In his military capacity, he was instrumental in coordinating and expanding the Navy's involvement in a broad range of real-time high fidelity medical simulation events for predeployment trauma on U.S. Naval warships, obstetrics, Code-Blue training, and primary care skills training through several novel training curricula for physicians, nurses, and corpsmen. His programs continue to directly support Graduate Medical Education (GME), and patient safety and skills sustainment initiatives. As a board-certified and practicing electrophysiologist and invasive cardiologist, Dr. Spooner’s professional interests and contributions vary from analyzing rare cardiac electrical abnormalities to developing and studying simulation skills curriculum for independent practitioners. He is a Fellow of the SSIH, past Chair of the Directors for Simulation Centers Special Interest Group, and current member of the Meeting Oversight Commission. He also serves as the Co-Chair of the American College of Cardiology's Simulation Work Group.
