Solutions to Common Operational Challenges Facing Simulation Centers (WISER)
Start time: Wednesday, March 24, 2021, 5:00 PM End time: Wednesday, March 24, 2021, 6:00 PM Session Type: Learning Labs
What are some of the operational challenges that you face at your simulation center? Join WISER as we discuss some of the more common challenges that centers encounter and the solutions that WISER has implemented. With 27 years of experience, WISER has seen pretty much seen it all … growing from a one room simulation “center” (a closet in the basement) to one of the busiest simulation centers around (including 8 Satellite Centers across Western Pennsylvania).
Join WISER’s Marty Mayer, CHSOS (Manager of Simulation Services), and Bianca Caruso (Educational Development & Scheduling Coordinator) as they walk through some of these common challenges and WISER’s successful solutions. We will also spotlight how Simulation Information Management Systems (SIMS) has helped to solve many of these hurdles and challenges. WISER’s John Lutz (Director of Information Technology) will share the latest advances included with the launch of SIMS 3.0 – an all-inclusive application that can benefit a two-room center to the largest center with multiple sites operating across several time zones!
We will conclude with a Q&A to address some challenges/hurdles that you are facing at your simulation center.
Identify common operational challenges that simulation centers experience.
Discuss solutions to the common operational challenges.
Discuss the benefits of incorporating a learning management system to ease administrative burden of simulation center management.
Provide insight to Simulation Information Management System (SIMS), and how SIMS 3.0 can benefit your simulation center by streamlining the operational management of a center.
Address your specific center’s challenges and brainstorm possible solutions.
Bianca Caruso is the Educational Development Coordinator and assists with the development of curriculum. Additionally, she coordinates the course scheduling for the WISER calendar. Ms. Caruso has a BS in Psychology and has held a number of other administrative positions prior to joining the WISER team. She is fully oriented to all WISER and Fellowship Program Policies and Procedures, and during her time at WISER has become oriented to elements of simulation course design, implementation, course scheduling, and faculty support both at the main WISER location as well as the WISER satellite centers. She is a member of SSH and attended IMSH 2020 for the purpose of professional role development as well as supporting the WISER display booth.
John Lutz is the Director of Information Technology and Co-Director of Research at WISER. He provides management and guidance for all software development projects as well as new hardware implementation and information technology support. He works with WISER faculty to develop the various research programs at WISER and assists in research design, data collection, and analysis. He is the architect of the Simulation Information Management System (SIMS), which WISER uses to manage the facility, deliver educational content, and produce data for research and management.
Martin Mayer, CHSOS, has been employed at WISER for six years: five years as a specialist and now as Manager of Simulation Services. During this time, Martin has been an integral member of the team, helping WISER to achieve significant growth. Martin has supported simulation programs conducted at the PANA (PA Association of Nurse Anesthetists) and SimOps Pittsburgh.
