The course will provide an overview on the Medical Simulation Instructional/Operational Methods (JMedSIM) Project and the transition to DHA J-7 Education and Training/ DMMSO.

Co-Presenter: Geoffrey Miller, BS, MS, Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning About the co-presenter: Geoffrey Tobias Miller is an Associate Professor, School of Health Sciences at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk Virginia. Geoff joined EVMS in January of 2011, overseeing the expansion of simulation-based educational activities, curriculum development and educational outcomes and translational analysis, with an emphasis on the creation and improvement of operational and clinical competence assessment using advanced educational technology, modeling and simulation, specializing in immersive virtual environments, serious gaming and innovative educational technology development. Geoff was appointed as a Research Scientist (2015) at the Medical Modeling and Simulation Innovation Center at the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), U. S. Army Medical research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC). In this role, Geoff oversees and conducts research and technology development into future generation medical modeling and simulation efforts focused on Military Health System needs. Previously, Geoff was the Associate Director of Research and Curriculum Development for the Division of Prehospital and Emergency Healthcare (2000-2011) at the Michael S. Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education (GCRME), University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Co-Presenter: Mr. Thomas Soto, BS, William Beaumont Simulation Center About the co-presenter: Mr. Soto is a simulation professional with experience on multiple simulation platforms and programs. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army and serving as a Combat Medic with a tour to Operation Iraqi Freedom, Mr. Soto began his simulation career under the War Fighter Focus, WFF program with the Medical Simulation Training Center, MSTC at Ft. Bliss Texas in 2012. Mr. Soto instructed Medics in Medic Renewal courses using simulators as an evaluation tool for medical and trauma patient assessment. Mr. Soto also trained Infantry, other military personnel, and Government agencies in Tactical Combat Casualty Care which included developing course simulation exercises relevant to trauma based scenarios. During his time with the WFF, Mr. Soto deployed to Kuwait in support of the MSTC operation at the Joint Mission Training Complex on Camp Buehring. The training operation included utilizing simulation to facilitate US Military and ally force readiness and sustainment. In June 2017, Mr. Soto began Federal Service at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center’s simulation program and is currently the Simulation Technician for WBAMC Simulation Center.
